To dream the impossible dream
To find the impossible candidate
Is it me or are employers being much tighter on their
recruitment criteria this year? Can't be a recession yet as there
are loads of new exciting jobs in the direct marketing sector but
it seems that an air of cautiousness has snuck up on clients.
Previously we had some fantastic open minded clients from global
marketing services providers, through direct marketing agencies to
smaller list brokers etc who would be looking to add new skills and
experiences from outside their immediate sphere of influence. Great
Darwinian selection in action where everyone is a winner. Clients
get great, eager new minds, the direct marketing industry grows and
our candidates get to spread their wings in a new field and
actually have careers.
Now it is like a redneck wedding, where everyone is marrying
couzins. Say hi to my uncle dad! And this is bobby sue, my
nephew mom. The danger of being so specific in selection criteria
is that the market ends up at an impasse. Same old clients chasing
same old pool of candidates.
Let's hope we don't talk ourselves into a true recession , after
all direct marketing is supposed to be recession proof (or should
that be recession resilent)
